| Alleviating poverty and overcoming exclusion are now global challenges. All countries (both developing and developed) face poverty in various forms. Poverty pockets and marginalized groups that are deprived of the chance to participate equally in development exist throughout Europe. Collecting disaggregated quantitative data is a precondition for developing national policies for sustainable inclusion of vulnerable groups such as the Roma, internally displaced persons and refugees. Since no disaggregated data had existed, UNDP decided to conduct a survey of the Roma and other vulnerable groups in Central and Southeastern Europe. The purpose of the survey is to generate quantitative data on the socioeconomic status of those groups and map their levels of poverty compared to national averages. This site provides access to the full datasets and national-level indicators. The primary results of the survey (both for individual countries and Southeastern Europe as a whole) are accessible by clicking the "Survey data" tab. Based on the results of the survey, major socioeconomic indicators, along with comparable national-level averages, have been computed and are accessible by clicking on the ?Statistical profiles' tab. Most of the indicators also have methodological notes and are displayed graphically. Visitors are welcome to use the data. Those who wish to publish the information are required to give credit to the "UNDP Vulnerable Groups Dataset". SPSS data sheets from Roma Households' Research in Slovakia 2005 Questionnaire |
